The only metro in Siberia was opened on January, 7-th, 1986 and consisted of a single line with 5 stations. Nowadays, the most eastern Russian metro consists of two lines with a total length of 15.9 km and 13 stations. Metro is very popular among citizens, being the most comfortable public transport in the harsh Siberian climate. Passenger traffic in Novosibirsk metro is the third in Russia, after Moscow and St. Petersburg metro.
